American Friction

Corporate Holiday Party

CEO Greg Sucup, CEO of American Friction was looking for something refreshingly different for their annual Holiday Party. Greg contacted us to put together an audience engaging magic/illusion show as well as walk around close-up magic.

Performing on the small stage in the party room at Dave & Busters, we were able to put on a great show for all the employees, entertained them for 45 minutes.

For American Friction, we blocked 3 hours on a day where we had a total of 7 performances. Even with all the snow in Cleveland, we successfully executed all of the shows throughout that day and evening. Before we left Dave & Busters, the General Manager asked to take a picture and have Rick autograph it.

The Dave & Buster’s managers wanted Rick Smith Jr. on their Wall of Fame between the Restaurant and Game room; as it turned out, we not only entertained the guests of American Friction but also the entire staff from Dave & Busters.

Greg contacted Rick a few days after the event and mentioned that Dave & Busters was so impressed that they had called to thank him not only for hiring them for the American Friction event but also for bringing Rick in and allowing their staff to enjoy the entertainment, which was by far their best event of the entire year!

Owner Marc Stefanski, CEO of Third Federal, loves magic and contracts magic shows for his company every 5 years. With Third Federal celebrating its 75th Anniversary in 2013, the celebration and the entertainment had to be its absolute best.

In preparation and planning the entertainment for the event, they contracted with Rick Smith Jr. a year in advance. Working closely with Marc personally, we were able to create shows for each of Third Federal’s two regional markets (Fort Meyers, FL and Cleveland, OH).
We performed illusions using their employees, making the retired employees disappear and re-appear for special recognition. We also created special magical effects, using mentalism to correctly predict the colors of the 75th Anniversary Logo in front of 1,200 employees at the Ohio Theatre in downtown Cleveland.

The Ohio show incorporated music, dancers, comedy, multiple illusions, audience participation and a special appearance by the Pointer Sisters! After months of preparation and planning, we delivered an amazing event that the employees will fondly remember for years to come!

Sam Covelli, CEO of Covelli Enterprises [the largest franchisee of Panera Breads and O’Charley’s restaurants] and Something New Events have hired Magician Rick Smith Jr., on many occasions to provide full service entertainment for different types of events.

This year we were contacted to perform a corporate fundraising event for 200 people, employing state of the art illusions, magical effects and a dance crew like no other.

Rick mingled with the guests, entertained them at their seats, and warmed up the crowd in preparation them for the main event, a Vegas style magic show. The entire event was an overwhelming success with record proceeds donated to Catholic Charities and the John F. Kennedy Catholic High School.

By working closely with Something New Events, we were not only able to create a high energy magic show, but leave the donors with a lasting memory of this very special event.

After the show, Rick also performed some incredible strolling magic, turning $1 bills into $100 bills, stealing peoples watches, and showing them some incredible card tricks that occurred in their very own hands. Knowing that the Covelli’s work with entertainers from all over the world, we were honored when we were chosen for their Choice Entertainer in 2013!

Jason Kidik, Manager of Promotions for the Cleveland Indians contacted us for a program called “Rally Alley”, an urban street festival aimed to extend the fun and exciting atmosphere of Progressive Field out onto Larry Doby Way, right behind the left- field bleachers.

Working with the Indians for a 2nd year in a row, we were able to create an engaging magic show that captivated the audience while the Indians educated fans on the variety of value-based food and free family-friendly entertainment options “Rally Alley” offered.

The shows ran every weekend from Memorial Day through September. Delivering a high energy Cleveland- based magic show at every “Rally Alley” event helped create an energy flowing into the stands and onto the field and, an unbelievable 2013 Season.

Corporate Event Entertainment – 25th Anniversary

Owner/Principal Tony DiGeronimo contacted us to help celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Cleveland based environmental remediation and asbestos abatement company.  Working closely with their HR department, we created a 45 minute stage magic show that was both entertaining and educational.

The show took place at the Cleveland City Hall Rotunda where we set up stage, lighting and sound, and put on a show that their employees will never forget.  We incorporated the asbestos theme into the event by using dry ice and a world famous illusion that was once performed by Harry Houdini.  The Rick Smith Jr. Dancers in the show wore faux asbestos suits and we created the illusion that we were removing the asbestos during their performance, leading up to our finale.

Many companies use Rick Smith Jr. to create an corporate entertainment experience that is designed around a central theme or a key message they want to deliver in the show while creating an entertainment experience that the audience will thoroughly enjoy, fondly remember and talk about for many years.

The Cleveland Clinic contacted Rick Smith Jr. to provide a richer entertainment experience for its corporate service awards event. We decided to perform not just a show, but strolling magic as well. Rick interacted one-on-one with the guests, entertained them at their seats, and got the whole crowd excited for the main event.

In addition to the stage and strolling magic, we incorporated event photo entertainment using green screen photo technology. Guests were able to take part by posing in front the green screen system that enables their images to be superimposed on different themed backgrounds. Photos are printed on site so that they can be enjoyed immediately. The special effects photography was a lot of fun for the guests and the photo provided everyone a lasting memory of the event.

After the awards ceremony, we put on a 45 minute stage show that included the service award recipients into the performance. It was a lot of fun for the audience as well as for Rick personally. Being able to work closely with the award winners, we were able to create fond memories for the ones who received awards and also give the audience something special that they won’t soon forget.

By hiring us for their event, the Cleveland Clinic was able to use our company for more than just a corporate magician, we were able to provide them a full portfolio of corporate entertainment services.

Danielle Riedel, medical secretary and head chair for the Cleveland Clinic Service Awards planning committee has hired Rick Smith Jr on several occasions for the world renowned hospital’s Annual Service Awards and other events.

Creating that memorable event for the individual service award winners as well as helping the Cleveland Clinic show their appreciation on a more personal level in an entertaining and enjoyable way is one of the most personally rewarding aspects of being a magician

Employee Retreat

The world’s largest publicly owned creator, manufacturer and distributor of social expression products hired Rick Smith, Jr. in 2012 to bring together employees from different locations.

Our services were utilized to create conversation between employees that didn’t know each other. Even more challenging, our mission was to “create” excitement and incorporate the word “magic” into the event theme that hosed this was a small sophisticated group of creative talent.

After performing some close-up magic, a large stage show was set up in the main ball room at Nemacolin Woodlands Resort, an exclusive luxury destination resort located in Pittsburgh, PA. Guests watched their employee reflection video – a look back of 2012 events and services provided by this creative team, which segued into our live magic performance.

As a testimony to the success of the event, Rick has been invited to perform for another subsequent American Greetings corporate event in Chicago.

At the Home and Garden Show in Cleveland, Gunton Corporation was looking for something that would both entertain and attract an audience to their Pella Windows & Doors’ branded display booth.

Designed around the perfect slogan: “Magic In Between the Glass”, Rick was able to incorporate their message into his entertainment act, which generated a lot of interest and large crowds at their booth.

We were able to create an illusion that gave the appearance that allowed the mechanism in between the glass to be “the perfect curtain” to make a person appear or disappear.

The creative performance incorporating the newest technology in windows was a huge success, generating high traffic and visits on the hour.

Holiday Party

A Cleveland-based, non-profit organization that owns and operates the major public broadcasting stations in Cleveland, Ideastream contracted Rick Smith Jr. to perform close -up magic for their recent holiday party.

The employees were to arrive at the party on a staggered schedule so the entertainment needed to be tailored to be more dynamic and engaging over a traditional show performance. As people were waiting to eat or receive their awards and gifts, Rick mingled with the crowd and interacted with them individually and in small groups.

Rick Smith I was contacted for this event because Ideastream knew that we could customize the entertainment to meet their specific needs and provide something that everyone could enjoy, particularly since not all the employees would be in the room at the same time.

They absolutely loved the entertainment and Rick was asked to return to perform at their next holiday party.
